Parts of you remind us of home. Ducks flapping through the marsh, the local fisherman sharing stories. But your unique beauty, the obvious and the hidden, is all your own. So much detail at every turn, friendly faces, and plenty plenty of delicious wine. Grazie.
A Venetian welcome
Upon arrival we were kindly greeted with champagne and a room with a view. Tired from traveling and still entranced by the awe inspiring views entering the floating city, we happily clincked our glasses and took out a big sigh leaving a smile painted on our faces.
Venice In the Daylight
We heard this music playing and it was too beautiful not to search for. We went through a maze of streets following the notes he played hoping we would catch him before the song ended. We finally could hear exactly where the melody was coming from and as we turned the corner we were met with a musician playing underneath these exquisite grand arches. He was positioned near the water which allowed his music to carry across to those listening. He was however playing to only those who heard him, no one standing nearby. I was satisfied with admiring him play from afar. My husband however was not. He took me by my arm and twirled me around asking me to dance. I looked at him bashfully as I am not one who wishes to draw attention. The musician saw this and smiled. With no one around he asked that we dance and enjoy ourselves while he played us a song.
I cannot remember the song or melody for that matter, but I remember the way I felt, the way the moment draped around us. It was a magical moment. He played for us, and we danced. I will forever keep this memory dear. I have no pictures to show of it and for that I could not be happier. The few memories that were extraordinary in my life I did not have a camera insight. I was fully in this moment and I will always be when I look back.
With love to my husband for asking me to dance and to the musician who played for us to.
Venice In the Evening
Dinner
We wanted to stumble upon places with no plan while in Venice. Dinners, stops, everything was within the moment. I will say to anyone who plans to visit, our favorite spot for dinner in our short time there was Ostaria Boccadoro. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of what seemed to be a local village. We enjoyed people and pup watching. Then was taken into a romantic evening of local musicians playing to the dinner crowd. This also just so happens to be the place of my latest favorite wine discovery.
& when we thought we were won over they put a cherry on top. Osteria Alla Boccadoro left us with such a lovely memento of the evening. A bookmark.
Speaking of books, I brought along with me Across the River and into the Trees set in Venice by Ernest Hemingway.
